On
the morning of 17th April 2006, about 1100 students from the School of
EEE from six different diplomas began a three-day long orientation programme.
Director EEE welcomed the freshmen at the Convention Centre. During the
next three hours, they were briefed by the representatives from the Student Affairs & Alumni Department, the
library, the Students' Union and the School's IT chairman.
To help the
students get to know their classmates and settle down quickly, all
freshmen attended a threehour long Glimpse of Life in EEE Workshop
at the Concourse. Facilitated by staff and about 50 student leaders
as well as EEE Alumni members, the freshmen played ice-breaker games,
and team building games with their new classmates. The highlight
of the workshop must be their first team-building game constructing
communications satellite, using straws and other simple materials
provided. For the first time this year the workshop was run by class
leaders and student volunteers.
Freshmen were also briefed about their courses and participated in
interesting hands-on activities. They were also briefed about the Personal
Tutor Network, disciplinary rules, important information about financial
assistance and other “survival skills”. Freshmen were also given
some SPICE training followed by a campus tour led by their seniors.
On 19th April,
together with about 4000 other SP freshmen, they participated in the SP Flag
Day in support of the President Challenge Charity 2005. The students went
out in full force to all parts of Singapore and raised a record amount
of $33,405.57 in the school's history.
