Provides an overview of biodiversity from biological, economic, ethical and ecological perspectives. The status of biodiversity both locally and internationally and the impact of current threats from habitat destruction, introduction of exotic species, disease and over-exploitation will be discussed, together with possible human interventions to stem the loss of biodiversity. Enter the wonderful world of creatures - from the smallest bacteria to plants and the largest mammals on Earth. Learn about their characteristics and the relationships that develop between different organisms. Find out more about the impact Man has on nature (e.g. from habitat destruction, global warming, over-exploitation etc.) There is a combination of lectures and tutorials. Digital Versatile Disc is the current format for storing images, video and data. Thus, it is extremely useful to gain a practical understanding of this media. Lessons are conducted through a combination of lectures and practical. The lectures will introduce the basic concepts on video editing and DVD authoring. Provides an overview of past, current and future understanding and approaches to human diseases in the three major disciplines - infectious diseases, haematological (blood) disorders and oncology (the study of tumour development, including cancers). The Revealing Eye in Digital Photography (DE502A)

Students are required to bring their own digital camera during tutorials.

Understand and appreciate the art of digital photography and its communicative component with practical tips on composition, lighting, colour and camera controls. Module content will explore fun and creative ways to improve each student's skills in and appreciation of photography. It includes lectures on techniques of composition and lighting, the use of colour and B&W, and understanding basic camera controls. Students' works and assignments will also be discussed in class.
