Joycelyn Yeo Jing Ci - Heart Full of Conviction
Joycelyn Yeo Jing Ci's interest in audio and video production saw her enrolling in Singapore Polytechnic's Diploma in Multimedia Technology course. Many 'firsts' were experienced by this former Dunman High School student during her three years with the Polytechnic - be it working on the Phua Chu Kang sitcom or getting involved in National Day 2006 and IMF/ World Bank 2006.
While Singaporeans were watching the final season of Phua Chu Kang Pte Ltd, the Low Guan Onn Gold Medal winner was busy looking out for her name in the credits at the end of each episode. Her internship at MediaCorp as a video editor gave her the opportunity to edit the last few episodes of the show.
In March 2006, Joycelyn led a six-member team to produce 'The Making of NDP 2006', a 33-minute documentary as her final-year multimedia group project. During the five months of production, she had to liaise with the 28 sub-committees of the NDP 2006 Executive Committee in MINDEF.
Right after the NDP project, during the Polytechnic vacation. Joycelyn chose not to take a break and found a job in an events company, working as a technical crew in the IMF/World Bank 2006. Setting up audio and video equipment to record meetings, she managed to identify many prominent finance ministers and delegates. As recording was a 'live' production, the stress level was high as there was no room for mistakes.
This Model Student Award winner who scored 25 distinctions and As has a heart of gold too. She started a peer support club to help integrate new students into campus life and formed study groups to help weaker peers. Every Christmas, she helps out in her church's events, distributing daily necessities to lowerincome families.
Joycelyn has an unusual dream job - to be a social worker helping prisoners. Having volunteered her services at Kaki Bukit Prison School since secondary school, Joycelyn firmly believes that people who have taken a wrong turn in life need to be given a second chance and she wants to be part of the effort to help integrate ex-convicts back into society.
She intends to take up a degree, possibly in arts and social science, in order to pursue her social work dream. Her Singapore Polytechnic diploma will come in useful as she wants to share her knowledge with prisoners who are interested in multimedia technology.
