Course Objective

This one-year programme is to enable participants who do not possess maritime qualification to take up a career in the maritime and offshore industry. It aims to give the participants a greater level of understanding in shipping, logistics and offshore operations and management. The participants will be able to perform their jobs with a greater level of competence and understanding after completing this course.

Participants are required to bring computer notebook when attending lessons, as you may need it to access the e-learning materials, writing reports, etc.

This course aims to equip non-maritime students with the theoretical knowledge and principles in the operation and management of shipping, logistics and offshore businesses. With this knowledge, they can apply themselves effectively to broaden the scope of their job function and keep themselves abreast with the rapidly changing industry practices.

Course Outline

There are 3 modules in each part at 45 hours per module, which make up a total of 135 hours for each part and 270 hours for the whole course.

This course consists of 2 Modular Certificates (MC). Each certificate comprises of 3 modules and the details are as follows:
 

Semester One

MC1 - Certificate in Maritime Business
Module 1 – Maritime Economic and Shipbroking
Module 2 – Maritime Law and Insurance
Module 3 – Cargo Management and Ship Surveying

 

Semester Two

MC2 - Certificate in Maritime and Offshore
Module 4 – Ship and Financial Management
Module 5 – Maritime and Offshore Operations
Module 6 – Supply Chain Management

All participants are required to attend 3 evening classes per week. For Semester One, the classes are scheduled every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. For Semester Two, the classes are scheduled every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants with any of the following qualifications are invited to apply:

a) The following GCE 'O' Level grades and with at least 3 years of relevant working experience:

  • English Language Grade 1 – 7
  • Mathematics (Elementary or Additional) Grade 1 – 6
  • Any other subject (excluding CCA) Grade 1 – 6


OR
b) Nitec/Nitec in Technology/Services in any discipline with GPA >= 2.5 in any discipline and with at least 2 years of working experience;

OR
c) Higher Nitec/Higher Nitec in Technology/Services in any discipline with at least 1 year of working experience;

OR
d) WSQ Diploma in any discipline and WPLN at Level >= 6 for English and Mathematics with at least 3 years of work experience;

OR
e) Recognised Class 3 Deck or Class 5 Engine Certificate of Competency with at least 2 years of working experience.

OR
f) Recognised Class 4 Deck or Class 4 Engine (Special Limit) Certificate of Competency with at least 2 years of working experience.

Certification / Accreditation


Upon completion of all the modules in each semester, the participant will be awarded a Certificate.

Upon successfully acquiring the two Certificates, the participant will be conferred a Diploma in Maritime and Offshore Management qualification from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Suitable for

Professionals who are currently working in non-maritime fields and would like to switch to a career in the maritime and offshore industry. Also suitable for shipping, logistics and offshore executives currently working in the maritime industry but do not possess maritime qualifications or relevant sea-going experience.

This course would also be suitable to nautical/engineering sea going junior officers who may be keen to supplement their technical and/or navigational skills with commercial and shore based operational knowledge so as to prepare for a shore-based career in the local maritime industry.

Refund Policy:

i) Withdraw within 2 weeks before semester commencement - 50% refund of paid course fee
ii) Withdraw on or after date of semester commencement - No refund of paid course fee

Please note that other fees paid are non-refundable.

Funding Incentive

The MPA MCF Training Grant is available for eligible local participants (Singaporean and Singapore PR). Please refer here for information. You are no longer required to submit the MCF application for MPA’s approval. You can make use of the MCF-CC self-assessment checklist to check your eligibility. If you are eligible for MCF grant, you will only need to submit your claim to the MCF Secretariat no later than one year of successful completion of course via this link.  For further enquiries on the training grant, please write to mcf@mpa.gov.sg.


Application Procedure

1. For self-sponsored applicants, please click on the “Register” button to apply for the course. You will be directed to Skills Training & Enhancement Portal (STEP), the official portal to manage all your course activities. Please note that you will be prompted to sign in with Singpass/Student ID.
 
2. For company-sponsored applicants, please approach your company's Human Resource (HR) team to put in the application through the company portal using CorpPass at STEP (polite.edu.sg). You may only apply after receiving the registration link from your company's HR.
 
3. Your application does not guarantee acceptance into the course. Your acceptance into the course is dependent on meeting the course requirements and course vacancy.
 
4. Non‐Singaporeans must possess a valid Employment Pass / Work Permit / Dependant Pass throughout the course duration. You would need to bear the full risk of non-completion should your pass expire and subsequently lapse within the duration of the course.
 
5. You will be notified by email on the application outcome 6 weeks after the application’s closing date. 
 
6. PACE Academy course schedules, including course trainer, course fees and course availability are subject to change.

7. PACE Academy reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course at short notice; & at its absolute discretion without assigning any reason for such cancellation/postponements. In the event that the applicant’s chosen course is cancelled prior to its commencement, PACE Academy will make a full refund of course fees already paid by the applicant.

8. The data provided to Singapore Polytechnic will be kept strictly confidential and will be used for the purpose of course administration. The data may be passed on to the relevant organisations that require the information related to the course.
