Full-Time Diploma in Chemical Engineering

The process industries are high-tech and at the forefront of scientific advances. There is a high demand for chemical engineering technologists to run these industries efficiently and safely.

About the Course
This course makes you exceptionally versatile. You will learn all about the principles of chemical engineering as well as chemistry fundamentals to enable you to experience how real-life applications are developed. Additionally, you will also learn project and management skills. There will be plenty of hands-on experience in operating sophisticated pilot plants. Our laboratories and workshops are fully equipped with an extensive range of pilot plants decked with state-of-the-art process instrumentation and control systems. To add realism to your training, the use of real-time dynamic process simulators has been included to maximize your learning experience. Further, you will spend 6 weeks working on a real plant at the Chemical Process Technology Centre (CPTC) on Jurong Island to prepare you for a rewarding career. There will also be project based work involving plant design with opportunities for you to develop new pilot plants and/or virtual, multimedia or web-based training material.

Career Prospects
Chemical engineers can be found in various industries. Job opportunities are abundant and employment can be found in many companies dealing with petroleum & petrochemical products, specialty chemicals, food products, plastics, pharmaceuticals and electronics. Key areas of employment include process and plant design, project management, engineering procurement and construction, process instrumentation and control, waste and energy management, manpower training and development, as well as technical positions in the government service. Chemical engineers also play a significant role in plant operation and maintenance, safety and environmental management, research and development (R&D), product marketing, sales support, and business planning.

At entry level, you are likely to be employed in the following positions: Technologist, Technical Officer, Assistant Engineer, Safety Officer, Project Supervisor, Marketing Executive, Sales Engineer.
