Nila Utama was a Sumatran prince. One day, he decided to visit Temasek. On the island, he saw a strange animal. He asked his minister what animal it was and was told that it was a 'singa' which means a lion. Thus, he named the city 'Singapura'.
The setting of our automata depicts the scene when Sang Nila Utama and his warriors encountered the lion. But instead of observing it at a distance, they were attacking the lion vigorously.
The movement of the lion's mouth and the movements of the warriors hands are being actuated by eccentric cams.
