After my GCE ‘O’ Levels, I took a two-year break from my studies to work before serving my National Service with the Singapore Civil Defence Force. Harbouring a passion to create things, I enrolled into the Higher Nitec course in Event Management at ITE College Central and graduated with a perfect GPA score. My quest to continue my education did not waiver and I subsequently enrolled into Singapore Polytechnic (SP)’s Diploma in Integrated Events and Project Management course (DEPM) at the age of 25.
With a determination to do well, I spent most of my time concentrating on my studies in SP. Throughout my time with SP, I was given many opportunities to apply my leadership and event management skills. An example will be my involvement as the SP Open House organising committee, where I had to lead the students’ team to raise awareness and manage the logistics of the Career Interest Profiling segment of the Open House. I was also involved in organising other events such as the Rockmasters rock-climbing competition and the Freshman Orientation Programme. During my free time, I also volunteered with the Care Singapore YouthCare Centre, to counsel and support youths at-risk.
SP has taught me that one is never too old to learn. I am fortunate to have received offers from local universities including Nanyang Technological University and the Singapore Management University but I plan to work before pursuing my education further. Inspired by my lecturers in SP and ITE, I hope to follow their footsteps and make a difference to the lives of others.
