As a second time participant in the uSPRINT Competition, I was provided the opportunity to apply the relevant skills and knowledge which I had learnt during the second and third year of my diploma course.
In last year’s competition, I adopted a fundamental approach and applied the knowledge learnt from Year 2 modules such as Equity Analysis, Corporate Finance and Financial Accounting to value companies and interpret financial statements and key financial ratios.
For this year’s competition, I adopted a technical approach using knowledge from Year 3 modules such as Technical Analysis and Futures and Options. Technical Analysis allowed me to predict future possible price movements by studying investors’ behaviours using price charts and indicators, while Futures and Options equipped me with the relevant principles required to execute trades efficiently.
Aside from the competition, the seminars conducted by UOB Kay Hian’s industry experts improved my financial literacy. We were taught the importance of investing and the common factors to look out for when selecting our investments.
Overall, the competition made me a better investor as I was able to try out different investment approaches and select one which best suited my personality.
