 The Champions!!!

Gold Awarded to 5 DBA Marketing Management Students!

The 7th International Marketing Competition (IMC) organised by The Chartered Institute of Marketing Singapore (CIMS) was held on 23 October 2010. Twelve teams comprising of six teams from local Singapore institutions and another six teams from the overseas institutions (namely, China, Thailand, Myanmar, and Indonesia) competed in the final round of the competition.

SP Business School’s team, comprising of five Diploma in Business Administration (DBA) Marketing Management students from class DBA3A13 (team members include Christopher Tan, Thong Keet Hui, Ng Siew Chia, Chen Yun Hui and Lim Hui Ping) was awarded the Gold Award in the local category, beating the other Polytechnics and private tertiary institutions teams.

The SP Business School’s team marketing idea was to market customised tattoos to both end consumers and business markets, like business corporations, educational institutions, private, and government organisations. The company that the team had set up is called ‘Tat-toosh’. In order to make the business real-life, the team set up a Facebook account (and currently boosted more than 570 members), posted a homemade video into the You-Tube on the company’s range of products (all done in a MTV manner, with the whole cast comprising of SB students), printed official business cards (which were distributed to all of the audience), conducted a field research on 100 respondents aged 15 – 24 years of age, made a personal interview with the Marketing Manager of Bugis Street Management to assess the team’s business viability, and also conducted 3 Focus Group Interviews with customers aged 25 – 35 years of age.

The team’s presentation during the finals was anchored by key speaker, Christopher Tan. He was supported by the other four team members, all female, and the girls did an exciting fashion show to showcase the company’s unique product offerings, like “glow-in-the-dark”, scented and customised tattoos.

Our Anchor!!

Overall, the audience and the judges were highly entertained and the team received several rounds of applauds from the crowd. The judges’ comments for the team were that the team had an interesting idea and that they were hopeful that the team idea could turn out to be a successful business at the end of the day.

To top off the team’s local Gold Award, Tat-toosh went on to win the most prestigious prize of the whole competition, ie. Overall Champion of the 7th IMC 2010, which was awarded to the best team amongst the local and international teams. Tat-toosh received another trophy and prize money of S$3,000. The team had created history for SP, as this is the first time SP-SB team had received a double honour.
