DBA-IBT Students Emerged as Merit Winners
Two teams from Diploma in Business Administration (DBA) – International Business and Trade (IBT) option, Ang YaoYe and Lim Guan Yu (Team ALS) and Jeraldine Wee and Darence Phay (Team Pickit) emerged as merit winners in the Singapore Finals of the FedEx / JA International Trade Challenge 2010 held on Saturday, 31 July 2010.
During the competition, the students were challenged to prepare a market entry strategy in the form of a concise marketing plan for a specified product to be launched in an allotted country. Teamwork, marketing, promotion and innovation were also essential attributes that the judges were looking out for.
The team, ALS, came up with an idea that specially caters to ageing population and single-person household in Sweden. They created a watch-phone made of eco-friendly materials that is equipped with 3 emergency speed dial buttons and GPS that will bring emergency helps to the user.
The team, Pickit, came up with an idea that specially caters to outdoor lovers in Australia. They created a picnic box with cooler and warmer features that will bring convenience and joy to outdoor picnic lovers.
"It was a great experience for us! We have learnt the art of good presentation skills. Through the process, we realised that creativity is a very important element to a good marketing plan. In addition, we have the opportunity to make friends from other polytechnics and schools" said YaoYe.
