50 Banking and Finance final year students were invited to attend the Bloomberg Start-up Programme at the Bloomberg Head Office in Capital Square. After a warm welcome by our host, we were given a brief introduction of Bloomberg LP. We learnt about how Bloomberg is not only a news station in the financial market, they also provide financial software tools and data to financial companies and organizations.
The day began with talks on different topics such as financial data, journalism, leadership and communication. The speakers from Bloomberg provided us with new insights and we had the opportunity to know ourselves better through reviewing our own skills and abilities.
One of the highlights of our visit was the chance to see for ourselves the legendary pantry of the Bloomberg office. We were not disappointed! The range of snacks, cereals, fruits, hot and cold drinks was mind-boggling! We had to exercise great restraint not to appear too greedy in the midst of all these “temptations”.
After our lunch treat, we had a tour of Bloomberg TV Studio. Then comes the most exciting part of the programme. We were given a case study to determine if the assigned company will become a global success. We were attached to different mentors from Bloomberg, who guided us in using the Bloomberg Terminal. After about 45 minutes of preparation, we had to give a 10 minute presentation, during which we were judged by a panel of Bloomberg staff.
The project enabled us to experience the usefulness of the Bloomberg Terminal as well as building our confidence in public speaking. Fortunately, our team won the first place and we were given the opportunity to go back to Bloomberg for a job-shadowing programme.
All of us have definitely learnt a lot from the workshop and we enjoyed the interaction we had with the Bloomberg staff. Thus, we would like to thank Bloomberg L.P. team for the unforgettable and meaningful experience.
