It was a great opportunity to be there at the Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) Open house held on 25 November 2015 at PWC Building. This was a combined event with students from different polytechnics to find out more about PWC and career opportunities available.
Sharing by PWC
Mr Ivan Tan, Head of Talent (HR), shared about the history and background of PWC. He was joined by Eldred Wee (Audit Assistant), Jolene Lee (Senior Associate) and Alvin Ou (Audit Manager) during the Panel session to share with us their different PWC Experiences. They talked about how they coped with balancing their studies and working during the day and how to deal with stress in meeting the various auditing deadlines. Mr Ivan shared about the typical career development pathway for auditors, starting from a junior audit assistant to becoming an audit partner. Ms Jolene shared about her experiences conducting stocktakes overseas and she had to juggle different deadlines during the audit peak. Mr Eldred shared about the strong friendship with his fellow colleagues in giving support and encouragement to each other in PWC. This sharing gave us many insights to what life as an auditor in PWC is like.

Mr Ivan also shared with us about the various pathways available for diploma graduates. We can join PWC and choose to pursue different professional qualifications such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualifications. We could work full time in PWC and study at night for our professional qualifications. The company provides full sponsorship for completing our professional qualifications and gives us a completion bonus of $5,000. PWC helps us with our studies by giving four days of study days and one exam day leave for each subject to allow us to prepare for our exams. Under the PWC Coaching Culture, seniors share their experiences and pass down useful knowledge and skills to benefit the juniors.
The highlight of the trip was the office tour which allowed us to experience the real working conditions in PWC. Our seniors brought us around to view the offices where they do their auditing work such as vouching and preparing the financial statements. An interesting fact about PWC is that there are vending machines allocated at every level which provides the staff with free snacks & drinks during their working hours.

This has been a memorable trip to PWC to find out about their programs and career pathways available. I am considering joining them after my graduation!
Enjoying the vibrant atmosphere in PWC!
