SP Business School China Seminar cum ITP (8 March 16 April 2011)

SP Business School China Seminar cum ITP

6 second-year students from the SP Business School went to Suzhou and Shanghai in China for the China Seminar cum Industrial Training Programme from 8 March to 16 April 2011.  8 students were from the Diploma in Accountancy and the other 8 students were from the international business and trade, logistic and supply chain management, and marketing options of the Diploma in Business Administration.

In the first week, the students attended seminars organized by the Soochow University in Suzhou, learning the Chinese culture, Chinese music, and the international business environment and challenges facing China.  Two doctoral students from the university accompanied us to visit cultural places in Suzhou and Wuxi.

After the first week, the students started working in different companies that they were posted to and were given jobs that matched what they studied in SB.  The experience in China is really beneficial and invaluable for the students.  Surprisingly some local staff could converse in English, and this helped the students understand the job better.  They were also friendly and ever willing to teach the students.

A variety of food is available in both small eateries and restaurants, at reasonable price. Transportation is convenient and well developed.  The fast train provides an advanced, affordable and speedy public transport running between Suzhou and Shanghai in less than half an hour, greatly shortening the time for travelling between the two cities.

Despite the attachment being 6 weeks, the students were treated well by the local colleagues and have learned a lot from them.  Above all, the students learned to become independent, to take care of each other, and to get along with each other.  The students left China with an unforgettable memory, of the people they met and worked with, the place they went, the friendship they have built with the local colleagues and the bonding among themselves.
