Learning Financial $avvy -ness from Hong Kong
A group of 40 students from the Diploma in Banking and Finance and the Diploma in Financial Informatics went on a study visit to Hong Kong during the semestral holidays in October. Bright-eyed and eager, the students and 2 lecturers from the SP Business School met in the wee hours of the morning on 10 October at Changi Airport to take a flight to Hong Kong.
A series of informative talks and corporative visits were part of the itinerary. The trip kicked off with our students meeting student from the Hong Kong Baptist University and attended seminars on topics such as the “Do’s and Don’t s when doing business in China” as well as how to raise funds in the Chinese markets. At the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, we experienced actual trading floors and real-time trading systems used by traders. They learnt why Hong Kong was one of the most attractive places in the world to set up a business.
The corporate visits were exciting too. The visit to the Lenovo factory and Swire Coca-Cola in Shenzhen was an eye-opener as they experienced the high level of activity in this bustling city. The visit to the Bank of East Asia office offered breathtaking seaviews.
After all that hard work, it was time to have some fun. The group ended the trip by visiting Hong Kong Disneyland. The fun and enjoyment helped forge closer ties.
As a whole, the experience was memorable - from the warm hospitality of the host partners to the excitement of the city. There was a buzz to the city- the tasty food, the efficient transportation system and the shopping to die for! The students not only got to learn about financial savvy-ness but had fun in the process.
