a) Brief profile
Mr Perry Ong is currently the Chief Executive Officer of NTUC Foodfare Co-operative Ltd. Appointed to this important position at age 35, SB is very proud to count him as our 1993 DBA Marketing graduate! He is married with a daughter.
b) Describe your life in SB
Whilst in SB, Perry started a printing business with 3 partners serving the needs of the tertiary education sector in terms of printing apparel and souvenirs. The heavy demands of business and school work did not deter him from being involved in BA Club (now SB Club). The Club organized orientation camps and various on-campus activities for the student body. After national service, Perry moved on to start a food business and successfully developed a fully integrated supply chain system.
c) Some lecturers whom you fondly remember …
Mrs Alice Tang and Mr David Wong who taught him Marketing modules. Ms Perlyn Sim who was the BA Club advisor.
d) Advice for SB’s current/future students
Perry is grateful for the good grounding in business he received from the polytechnic training. His printing business was a textbook in action! To Perry, business is an art (the hands-on experience) and a science (the academic experience).
Being a strong believer in the value of a practical hands-on curriculum from young, Perry did not regret his choice of the polytechnic route.
