Janet started her career in the Corporate Banking Department of OCBC Bank where she was involved in the analysis and marketing of credit facilities to large corporations. She then moved on to specialise in offshore lending in a Norwegian Bank. Since joining the Singapore Polytechnic Business School, she has taught many modules offered in the School like Credit Risk Analysis & Management, Corporate Finance and Financial Markets and Institutions. However, her main contribution would be in the area of Financial Planning.
In 2000, Janet developed the Financial Planning module for the Diploma in Banking and Financial Services and subsequently obtained the Certified Financial Planner qualification. Since then, she has also developed other Financial Planning modules tailored to non-business polytechnic and upper secondary students, with a view of helping more young adults to be better informed and prepared for their financial well-being.
In fact, it is this personal conviction that a person’s financial health has a direct impact on all aspects of his life, be it personal, family or career, that she would try as much as possible to share real-life examples with her students so that they can appreciate the importance and relevance of the subject matter.
