Shawn Koh is a 2nd year Diploma in Architecture student and was recently a double award winner at the recent ArchiFest 2010 Photography Competition organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA).

The competition is based on ArchiFest 2010 theme which is ‘Happy Cities.” Photo entries must adhered to the theme and convince the public as well as the SIA judges that their entry best describes what a Happy City is.

The judging is split into 2 parts. The first part is base on votes cast by the public via the internet and the second part – the top 10 most voted photos will then be judged by SIA Committee.

The result was announced on the 3rd November 2010, the closing day of ArchiFest 2010 and Shawn was awarded 3rd most voted picture by the public and the top prize for the best picture voted by the committee. His entry which is tied to the concept of ‘people makes a happy city’ is a collage of 80 smiling faces from his own personal picture collection of friends as well as relatives.

Shawn was asked on how he felt on winning the top prize “This is honestly my first ever photography competition and never thought I could win – but through this experience, I’ve learnt that if you don’t try you would never know what you could achieve!”

On that note the staffs and students from the School of Architecture & the Built Environment congratulate Shawn Koh on his winnings and may he continue his pursuit of his photography passion!
