Landscape Design Challenge 2016

Singapore Polytechnic, Diploma in Landscape Architecture students won in the Singapore Garden Festival 2016.

National Parks Board (NParks) organised the Landscape Design Challenge 2016(LDC2016) for Polytechnics and ITEs. The competition was organised in conjunction with the Singapore Gardens Festival 2016 at the Gardens by the Bay, Singapore.

Singapore Polytechnic, Diploma in Landscape Architecture sent in two teams consisting of 3 students each.

The competition started about a month earlier with students conceptualising their design. The proposals were then sent to NParks and as submissions for the competition.

A week before the actual competition installation of the landscape, NParks provided S$2,500 for each team to source for their planting and hardscape materials through the list of nurseries. These materials were transported to the site for the competition a day before the installation which was on Saturday 23 July 2016 in line with the official opening of the Singapore Gardens Festival 2016 at Gardens by the Bay.

Students started to compete from 10.00am to 2.00pm. This was where they have to show their skills at installing the design and complete them in 4 hours. While they did this, they were judge by the panels from the industry.

After the installation, the judging continued for several days and judges looked at the maintenance regimes by participating groups.

The results were finally out on 29th July 2016. Singapore Polytechnic won 2 of the 3 prizes.
