Mr. Foong Sew Bun, CTO for IBM ASEAN talks to IDA on his career and T-shaped skills.
 

Armed with a Diploma in Electronics Communications from the Singapore Polytechnic and a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin, Mr Foong Sew Bun developed a distinguished 25-year career in IT spanning academia, end-user organisations and major IT multinational corporations. Today, he is the Chief Technology Officer for IBM ASEAN, Singapore and the ASEAN Software Group, an IBM Distinguished Engineer, and an Adjunct Associate Professor with the National University of Singapore.

Ms. Marie Goh graduated from Singapore Polytechnic in 2009 with a Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. She is currently pursuing an overseas education, enrolling at the Imperial College in London. She reflects on the solid engineering foundation that SP had provided to her in getting her a place at Imperial College.

Dr. Lin Min has come a long way since his days at SP. Upon graduating, he received a scholarship to study at University of Edinburgh in United Kingdom where he graduated with First-Class Honours. He went on to University of Cambridge on a scholarship and secured a PhD.

Jamie Ng was the Best Trainee in Basic Military Training (1st Commando Battalion), a Commissioned Officer at the Officer Cadet School, a graduate from Queensland University of Technology, and now the Assistant Vice-President of a local bank. He recalls how SP helped to shape his successful career and life.

Dr Ang Kah Wee has been busy bagging scholarships and awards since graduating from SP in 1998 with a Diploma in Electrical Engineering. These include the MIT-Alliance Scholarship Award, TSMC Outstanding Student Research Gold Award and A*STAR Graduate Scholarship Award.
He did SP proud recently when he received the prestigious 2010 President’s Technology Award (PTA).
