18 May 2015 is an unforgettable day for students in the Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology (DHRMP) course. It is finally the long awaited celebration for most of us as we will be writing the last page of our journey in Singapore Polytechnic. I have written a marvellous 3 years’ worth of journey which I believed most of us will attain throughout the education in Singapore Polytechnic.
I am honoured to be awarded the Hays Human Resource Gold Medal. I had a wonderful time in DHRMP as it provided me with many opportunities to learn and explore. Being trained as a Human Resource personnel, we were learnt about presenting ourselves during a job interview, our employment rights, competencies of good employees and many more. These skills and knowledge are essential not only as a Human Resource personnel but also as an employee regardless of industries or sectors.
In addition, there were many events such as the HR Summit, HR Congress and Overseas Outreach Programme that allowed us to step out of our comfort zone and know reputable individuals in the industry. I participated in the HR Summit 2014 and had the chance to socialise with speakers from all over the world who were specially invited for the Summit. Such opportunities were hard to come by and it was indeed an honour to have graced the event.
Another opportunity that was given to me was the Hays Scholarship in my Final Year in DHRMP. I was elated to be presented the scholarship which granted me a placement with Hays Recruitment for my internship programme. It was definitely an eye opener as the company adopted a clan and market culture where fostering relationship is as important as the results achieved by employees. No doubt the employees were being stressed out with reaching their targets at times, the company also provided good employees’ benefits to help them manage their stress level. Indeed, I have gained a lot during my internship which I believe will come in useful in future.
It was a pleasant and fruitful journey these years. Three years ago, DHRMP was my first choice and I did not regret making this decision. I would like to urge my fellow juniors to Strive with no excuses and Graduate with no regrets.
Hereby, I would like to wish all the graduates of batch 2015 all the best in your future endeavours. To the juniors, all the very best in your education in SP and write a meaningful one.
