Three Year 2 Diploma in Tourism and Resort Management (DTRM) students, Sharmain Sim, Tan Xin Ru and Nicole Goh participated in the Travel & Tourism Business Program & Competition (TTBiz 2014) co-ordinated by Junior Achievement Singapore and sponsored by Accenture Japan. The student team known as A.I.R. was formed in July 2014. The entire team comprised of 4 students from Japan, 3 from Korea and 3 from Singapore (our 3 DTRM students). The students chose their overseas team members via skype.
The team was tasked to develop a travel plan to Japan. They had to research, discuss, and make a plan together by communicating remotely (online). At the end of the program, all the competing teams presented their travel plans in English at the final competition. A group of judges from the travel industry evaluated and scored the plans to decide which team will win. The prize for the 1st place winners was a 4-day stay in Japan with flight, full board and lodging included.
8 teams presented at the preliminary finals on 24 January 2015. Our DTRM team was amongst the 4 teams that were selected to proceed to the finals on 25 January 2015. At the finals, our DTRM team earned second place. Although Team A.I.R. did not win the first prize, our students, their Japanese and Korean team mates received very positive feedback from the organizers for their show of professionalism and focus. In fact, our student Tan Xin Ru took it upon herself to set up a TTBiz 2014 Facebook group.
It was a long, challenging and fulfilling journey for our 3 girls in preparing for the competition all these months. What did they finally achieve? They definitely gained precious experiences which may support their becoming "Global talents" and they will likely play important roles in globalizing society in the future.
Congratulations and well done, Sharmain, Xin Ru and Nicole. You did SP proud.
