Q1: Can you explain your diploma briefly?

You will gain a solid foundation in Finance, and be trained in skills to leverage on the Analytics and Business Intelligence tools to gain insights into data.
"Recession-proof, sustainable skill sets": Financial products knowledge and financial evaluation skills e.g. financial modelling, risk assessment, deal settlement. You will also be trained in analytics skills to manage information e.g. VBA skills to eliminate routine works, database management, data mining, trend forecasting, produce dashboard and graphics for decision making.
You may work in the areas of finance and risk management, analytics and business intelligence, technology and operations, and project management.
Advice: If you are not sure what to specialise in, but are interested in finance and risk management, have numerical sense, and would like to be versatile at career options and workplace with transferable technology skill sets, this would be a course to consider.

Q2: What is Special About this Course?

  • Lots of practicum to build up market-based competencies in financial analysis, risk assessment and data management skills though various platforms e.g. VBA, Python, R, Tableau and SQL.
  • Cross-disciplinary approach to widen your perspectives and build up solid problem solving capability for real world challenges
  • Industry projects in 3rd yr and internships of up to 5 months.
  • Overseas learning programs to date: China - Suzhou, US for exposure of financial markets practices.

Q3: And Another Thing you must know!

  • DFI students can apply for the through-train IDA scholarship from Polytechnic to Degree, and the Elite Program where students will be coached by industry mentors with a fully funded internship.
  • The only DFI course among 5 Polys that is managed by a Business School
  • Admission into DFI requires ELR2B-C (science subjects such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology etc). The English requirement is 1 – 7.
