Welcome Freshmen to the DFI Family!
April, a time of spring saw the incoming of new academic year 2014-15, a fresh wave of expectations from our incoming Year 1s,
fresh-faced from the various Secondary Schools. The Freshmen Orientation Program (FOP), primarily run by the Diploma in Financial
Informatics (DFI) student chapter, is major milestone of the (DFI) was aimed at helping the freshmen to assimilate into the poly life, to
make new friends and welcoming them to a new home and community!
“Work hard then Play hard”
The first day kicked off as the Course Management Team, led by Ms Alison Ho (Course manager) welcomed the students to the new
phase of their lives, outlining their lives in the next three years. Reminding them to be conscientious in their studies as well as highlighting
the importance of a balanced life in Singapore Polytechnic, she stressed the importance of holistic development above everything else.
“Nice to know you :)”
Finding one’s feet
Led by enthusiastic student facilitators, the “break the ice” games had been prepared months in advance by the DFI Student Chapter
Organizing Committee and one could see the ice beginning to thaw as friendships were made. The freshmen responded well to various
games, running around, chattering. Introduced to a new environment (food court 4 was a favourite) the freshmen began to adapt to the
place which would be home for the next three years. Learning acronyms (SB) and navigating around SP (T22432?) also became easier
as the days went by. The freshmen also met their respective PTNs (Personal Tutors) for their first time.
