Shun Ng presented with prestigious Holly Prize in New York

Songwriters Hall of Fame, New York
"Fingerstyle guitar virtuoso Shun Ng will be presented with Songmasters' prestigious 2016 Holly Prize at the Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on June 9th. The award will be presented to Ng by music industry legend and 12-time Grammy Award-winner Peter Asher. A tribute to the legacy of Buddy Holly, a Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, The Holly Prize recognizes breakthrough singer-songwriters whose work reflects Holly’s true, great, and original talent."

The Conrad Pope scholarship is awarded to those who have demonstrated a passion for music, shown exceptional creative talent, are professionally motivated and able to make unique contributions and achievements.

Following the release of their first single, "A Simple Hello", JJ and the Paperplanes went on 987FM to share their journey towards the release.

Reuben Shaun Raman was recently awarded the National Arts Council Arts Scholarship (Undergraduate) to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Recorded Music at the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University (USA).

DMAT student Wong Wai Huin's song chosen for Singapore Science Centre's KidsSTOP

Singapore Science Centre commissioned DMAT songwriting students to write the theme song for KidsStop – and Wong Wai Huin's song was chosen. Minister Heng Swee Keat presented Wong Wai Huin with an iPhone 5s as a token of appreciation at the official opening ofl KidsSTOP.

JJ and the Paperplanes: Performance

DMAT band, JJ and the Paperplanes, performs at arts community node launched by Minister Lawrence Wong.

One of DMAT's record label bands, JJ and the Paperplanes, performed at the Jurong Regional Library as part of the government’s $5 million plan to put on arts programmes for the public in community venues.

This community node was launched by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth – Lawrence Wong. The band was featured on news channels such as The Sunday Times and Channel News Asia.

DMAT alumnus, Ting Si Hao, composes for tele-movie

Based on the critically acclaimed novel by Dave Chua (winner of the Singapore Literature Prize Commendation Award), "Gone Case" is a heartfelt, coming-of-age story about twelve-year-old Yong and the tumultuous events in his life.

Ting Si Hao worked on the show as the co-composer.

DMAT Band, Afterglow, selected for Noise Singapore's Music Mentorship Programme

The Music Mentorship helps musicians to further their skills and exposure to benefit their artistic development. The selected mentees will be guided by music gurus in the industry.

Afterglow auditioned and they clinched the deal. They will be mentored by Eddino Abdul Hadi and Bani Haykal.

DMAT student awarded scholarship by Berklee College of Music (USA)

Berklee College of Music Scholarship

After graduating from the Diploma in Music and Audio Technology (DMAT) in 2010, he went onto pursue a degree in music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, and was awarded a scholarship by the college for his excellent academic achievement. During this time, Shun was also actively performing in Singapore, notably at the President’s Star Charity and with local jazz legend Jeremy Monteiro.

Today, he stands as one of the most innovative new performers, playing international festivals and winning accolades from some of the industry's top names. Shun was recently named one of the Top 10 Acts in Boston by Improper Bostonian, and has just come back from L.A. after meeting with legend Quincy Jones, who was "blown away" by Shun.

People's Association Youth Movement

Formalisms wrote "From The City To The Shore" for a People's Association Youth Movement event that took place in July.

While Prime Minister Lee missed the band's 'live' performance, he said to Formalisms lead singer, Beth Yap: "Oh, you must send me a copy!"

Singapore Polytechnic releases first-of-its-kind record label

SPEAR: Singapore Polytechnic Emerging Artiste and Repertoire

The record label, known as SPEAR (Singapore Polytechnic Emerging Artiste and Repertoire), allows the students to learn and integrate all their skill sets; from music composing, arranging, recording and performance to making and marketing a record.

Run by SP’s Diploma in Music and Audio Technology (DMAT), it provides students with a unique opportunity to have their music showcased and picked up by major players in the music industry.

Stage Without Borders: Songwriter’s Edition
The 7th Episode of Stage Without Borders (*Scape's Youth event) is also the first collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic! Matin (from Singapore Polytechnic), with his soulful voice and moving lyrics was crowned the winner and walked away with the $500 grand prize. Rachel (also from Singapore Polytechnic) with her sing-along number clinched the 2nd Prize. Both students are from DMAT.

Eighty outstanding scholars across nine schools at SP received scholarships to recognize their excellence across diverse fields; 65 of them were first year students, 15 of them second year. Thirty-eight received SP Scholarships, and 42 were awarded SP Engineering Scholarships. In addition, there were four recipients for the SP Music and Arts Scholarship and five for SP Sports Scholarships.

Stage Without Borders: Band Edition, Grand Prize
24th March 2012 marked the 6th Episode of Stage Without Borders Disco Hue, a synth-funk band, was crowned the winner and walked away with the $1000. The band - Disco Hue, hails from Singapore Polytechnic got the audience standing up and dancing to their original song, Saturday Noise. Their funky upbeat music have got them further invading into 987FM with DJ Kim for Live radio performance and an exclusive interview.
