The world today is undergoing a paradigm shift. It is evolving into a world where technology revolutionizes the way we do things. Emerging technologies, media convergence and changing consumer behavior stand out as some of the key drivers behind this revolution. Singapore is one of the many nations that play an active role in this revolution.
Singapore leverages on technology to, amongst other things, power its economy, raise productivity levels, and boost manpower demand. From 2012 to 2013, infocomm revenue rose by 30% to SGD$1.48 billion1 while infocomm manpower grew by 2.7% to reach 161,2002 in the same period.
The School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology (DMIT) envisions itself to be playing an important role in this revolution by being a strong source of talent for the Infocomm and Media industry.
We nurture and develop our students in a holistic manner so as to prepare them for the exciting challenges that lie ahead. We do this through a variety of channels such as innovative teaching approaches, inspiring learning spaces, immersive experiences, multidisciplinary projects and leadership training programmes.
Our innovative teaching approaches aim to inculcate a sense of deep learning and to integrate soft skills. The Record Label for example, engage students from the Diploma in Music and Audio Technology using the Master-Apprenticeship Model, where students (the apprentice) play an active role in the music production process whilst learning under the guidance of the lecturers (the master).
We also marry our innovative teaching approaches with inspiring learning spaces that simulate real-life working environments, so as to prepare them for the working world. Akin to soldiers who are trained in the firing ranges before going into the battlefield, our Cyber Wargame Centre train students from the Diploma in Infocomm Security Management using the cyber wargaming approach, by building up their competence in effective teamwork, resourcefulness and working under pressure.
In preparing the leaders of tomorrow, we have in place, different leadership training programmes, specially designed to hone students’ leadership skills and attributes.
Moving ahead, we firmly believe in empowering our students, enabling them to excel in the expanding digital ecosystem, and to continue to create a digital world without limits!
