Solar Powered Membrane Distillation


The Singapore Junior Water Prize (SJWP) is a national competition to pick a winning team to represent Singapore to vie for the international Stockholm Junior Water Prize in Sweden. The Stockholm Junior Water Prize is a prestigious international award for outstanding water project by young people. It aims to encourage young people’s interest in issues concerning water and the environment. Like the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, the Singapore Junior Water Prize aims to promote awareness and interest in water and environmental issues among young people. In May 2010, 3 Final Year DEWT students participated in this prestigious national competition and received a Merit Award on their innovative design – Solar Powered Membrane Distillation. This project focuses on the development and experimental assessment of the solar pond and membrane distillation concept to develop a high-efficiency and cost-effective system which produces clean water from sea water or fresh water alike.
