On 4 Nov 2015, about 230 students from the Diploma in Accountancy, Diploma in Banking and Finance as well as Diploma in Business Administration who are taking the International Trade Finance & Documentation module, attended a talk held jointly by ICC and IE Singapore.
The talk introduced students to the International Trade Associate Programme (ITAP) conducted by the ICC Academy, which is a partnership between ICC and IE Singapore.
IE Singapore launched the ITAP programme to develop a sustainable and specialized talent pool for the trade sector by building a talent pipeline for the industry from the polytechnics. Skilled manpower is needed to boost Singapore’s trade leadership. As IE Singapore promotes international trade and assists Singapore companies to internationalise, it has taken the lead to deepen the skillsets of Singaporeans in these areas. They include critical middle-office roles to complement front-office roles. The ITAP programme provides opportunities for Singaporeans to access good jobs and global careers in the trading and finance sectors, in line with Singapore’s national SkillsFuture initiative.
The ITAP programme is supported by the ICC Academy, 17 founding industry players from trading and finance companies, and four polytechnics (Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic). The ITAP programme comprises an accredited training programme leading to the Global Trade Certificate (GTC) programme conducted by the ICC Academy, with practical experience provided by industry through structured internships.
The 17 founding industry partners, which include Bunge, Charles & Keith, CNOOC Trading, IKEA, DBS, Decathlon, Dole, INTL FC Stone, Kaybee, Lobb Heng, OCBC, Raduga, Sing Lun, Sportmaster, Texline, Valency and Wilmar, will provide students with career exposure and opportunities through internships.
Students who sign up for GTC will be have the programme overlaying their existing diploma studies. Leveraging on the GTC developed by the ICC Academy, the students will receive industry-accredited certification which enhances their employability and productivity in trade function roles. The founding industry partners will offer internships lasting three to six months during or after the programme. Thereafter, there will be opportunities for full-time employment with the same companies. In addition, the globally-recognized GTC will be taught by industry expert trainers and students will be able to connect online with fellow students and industry leaders to grow a professional network.
