DLA Study Trip to Taman Negara Pahang, Malaysia

This mid-term break, 14 DLA Year 2 students embarked on an unforgettable, mind-blowing experience to the depths of Taman Negara, Pahang, Malaysia to explore the richness of the million-year-old forest.

The students were exposed to night trekking on the first day and discovered numerous rare species such as ancient millipedes and wild Tapir. Here, they learnt the framework of the forest eco-system and gained tremendous confidence and skills in trekking without light.

The following day, the students continued their trekking in the jungle where they explored various flora and fauna, learnt native plants identification and characteristics, and ended with a hiking of 344m up the Bukit Terisek.

Students went through more confidence building skills, attempting a 500m long, 45m high suspended canopy walk where they learnt the effect of tropical rainforest.

During this trip, the weather changed drastically. From very hot & humid during the day to very wet rainy nights. The guide brought the students to a nearby dipping pool to enjoy the cooling river and the great view of the unspoiled natural rainforest.

On the last day, we went to visit Orang Asli village where students learnt how the indigenous people hunt and make fire.

At the end of the trip, students bonded very well and enjoyed themselves. Many wished that they could come back again next year.
