On 30th October 2009, School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology (DMIT) signed a Memorandum of Co-operation (MOC) with the International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council) - the world’s leading IT security certification organisation whose members include the US Federal Government, US Army, Microsoft, IBM and United Nations.
Under this MOC, SP will become the first in Singapore to embark on EC-Council Academia Learning Solution. The Diploma in Infocomm Security Management (DISM) students will benefit directly in this strategic tie-up. Three scholarships worth $2,500 each will be awarded annually over the next five years to deserving DISM students taking the full-time diploma course. The scholarships are given in the form of training seats in either live, self-study online or live online classes / training run by EC-Council.
In addition, EC-Council will also give a $1,000 graduation award and a $500 EC-Council Circle of Excellence Award to deserving students over the same period. The total value of S$45,000 in scholarships and awards are made possible with the signing of the MOC between DMIT and EC-Council.
With these initiatives, DISM students are excited by the prospect of obtaining the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) professional certification that will help them to gain an edge when they graduate. Said Dr. Timothy Chan, Director of DMIT, “We are confident that EC-Council qualifications will fortify our students’ knowledge and skills, making them stand out from the rest.”
Six lecturers from the DMIT’s Infocomm Security section have undergone the Train-The-Trainer CEH program by EC-Council. Two DISM Year-3 students also participated in the training as observers. Tan Jun Hao, one of the two student participants, said, “The CEH course has given me a good exposure on the techniques and tools used by the real hackers. Certainly with this exposure, I am in a better position to guard against any potential attackers.”
As the six lecturers passed the EC-Council’s world-renowned Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) professional certification, they are now ready to deliver the EC-Council’s courses to DMIT’s full-time students and part-time adult learners. Many students can’t wait for the training to begin to be groomed as the next ethical hacker.
