Authoring Digital Possibilities

Let us unfold your dreams to make them a reality!

Best Rookie Award for SP students at PANORAMA: Asia Pacific Animation Challenge 2009.

Driven by passion, three students from the DMIT’s Diploma in Digital Media (3D Animation) programme entered an animation competition organized for students in countries within the Asia Pacific region and returned with Best Rookie award.

Bavani Naidu, Grace Ng Siew Mei and Owen Lim Ern Li joined DMIT’s DDM programme from very humble beginnings. Their passion and furor for creative digital production hit a high note when they worked on their FYP project. Their project was created with such a high quality that they decided to enter the very first PANAROMA - Asian Pacific Animation Challenge and Animation Camp 2009 organised by Autodesk and Mayan: Hong Kong Maya User Group.

SP Students and judges

At the initial selection phase in Singapore, the unique feel and creative visuals of their work caught the eye of the local judging team and became one of the short-listed works to represent Singapore. At the second phase of the competition they were put through a grueling 3-days boot camp, which was held during the period from the 11th to 14th of December, to fine tune their work. Though pitted against very strong and experienced teams from other countries, their drive and will power to excel propelled them to work almost non-stop throughout. At the final judging, the standard and quality of their final piece was undeniable and they came in clinching the Best Rookie Award.

“I’m really happy to receive the Best Rookie Award. This is the first time I’ve ever participated in a competition that involves 3D animation. I am really happy about it because I thought we were doomed due to stiff competition. This award is testament of our effort during those 3 days and it shows how far we’ve pushed our limits.” Bavani mused while clutching to her 4 kg 3D engraved crystal trophy.

Both Grace and Owen were overjoyed after receiving their trophies. “This shows that our hard work and improvements have been recognised internationally and this is really an exhilarating experience!” Besides receiving the trophies, these three students are now US$500 richer.

They hope that their achievement in this competition will help cast the limelight on our Digital Media programme while at the same time, encourage more students to create quality work and take part in such competitions in the future.

Our award winning team with their trophies and certificate.
