While many of their peers were enjoying their holidays or doing part- time work, students from the Diploma in Digital Media went the extra mile to take part in a competition despite their busy schedules.
Three students, Lim Wan Ru, Chai Jia Yuan [Interactive Applications Option] and Phelia Cheng Wei Xin [3D Animation Option] from the School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology took part in the Young Investor Website Design competition organised by PhillipCapital during the semester break in March 2010.
As they worked on the competition, the strong teamwork enabled them to overcome many challenges. One of the main challenges was arranging a time to meet up and discuss the design for the competition. The time for discussion was scarce and hence, for every meeting, each minute was wisely spent.
With their hard work, their design was among the top 5 shortlisted for voting.
There were more than 8,000 votes and their design was awarded the 2nd prize. They walked away with S$1000 cash with opportunities in freelance design work or internship with PhillipCapital.
"Winning this competition encouraged us in knowing that our work is recognized by both the public and friends. We will definitely take part in more competitions in future so as to build up our portfolios." said the overjoyed Wan Ru.
"The most exhausting part about this competition is trying to capture the perfect photo for our banner. We spent hours under the scorching sun, trying to achieve the effect we wanted. However, it was well worth it!", added Wan Ru.
The competition is a great exposure for the students and they look forward to participating in more competitions. At the same time, this competition has given them another opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills that they have learnt in Singapore Polytechnic.
Well done, students!
