Over 3 weeks in July 2011, more than 300 students from DBIT, DIT and DISM courses got an out-of-the-classroom experience in Singapore Polytechnic. Industry and thought leaders from NTU, Microsoft, Ubisoft, and ThinkSECURE shared the latest news and inner workings on all things IT – from AI to Kinect and Windows Phone 7, to how to get into the Game Industry and securing your smart phones.
Speakers from Microsoft covered cutting edge technologies such as Cloud Computing with Windows Azure and Natural User Interface technology using the newly released Kinect SDK and Surface 2.0 SDK.
Smart phone developers were given a real treat with Microsoft’s sneak peek into the upcoming “Mango” update to Windows Phone 7, and ThinkSECURE’s co-founder gave a behind-the-scenes look at how hackers can get into your data on your iPhone or Android phone.
One of the hot favourites of students, Ubisoft Singapore, garnered a large pre-registration crowd and prompted a move for the talk to a larger venue. Our guest speaker from Ubisoft Singapore did not disappoint, sharing insights into the inner workings of the game industry: from his personal experiences to getting an interview with an international game development giant.
Chris Ismael, Microsoft Developer Evangelist, showed
how to fire a Hadouken using Microsoft’s Kinect SDK.
Enthusiastic students made us move from a 35-seater classroom to a 200-seater Lecture Theatre.
