In line with the Government’s call for more young people in Singapore to be involved in entrepreneurship, SP Business School (SB) is pleased to present the 17th edition of our Young Entrepreneurship Challenge, YES 2015, in a new format.
In a recent speech by Ms Indranee Rajah, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Law and Ministry of Education, Entrepreneurship was described as being vital for our economy as it contributes to innovation and problem-solving. It also nurtures the values of self-reliance, resilience and perseverance. Achieving success as an entrepreneur requires one to start with a good idea, an idea one believes in, and pressing on despite facing roadblocks and hurdles along the way.
In keeping with this spirit of Entrepreneurship, our YES challenge provides an excellent platform for secondary school students to mold a business idea and to implement it in real life! With the theme Can You Sell It?, teams of students will compete to conceive a creative business idea, with the six finalist teams winning gift vouchers and trophies.
In the implementation phase, the top three teams to actualize their winning business ideas over a one-month period. Each team will receive an additional $800 cash to spend in implementing their business idea, and they will be mentored by our Entrepreneurship graduates during the one-month period. The team with the highest sales will win $1,000 cash and the YES Challenge Shield.
On the first day of the competition, we have arranged for industry professionals to share with the participants their practical experience on Entrepreneurship and Presentation Skills, as well as Basic Marketing Principles. This is followed by small-group workshops facilitated by our Entrepreneurship students to guide participants in brainstorming a creative business idea and formulating a marketing plan.
On the second day of the competition, all the participants will present their business idea and marketing plan to our SB lecturers who will select six finalist teams.
Each of the six finalist teams will be awarded
$250 cash or gift vouchers,
A school trophy, and
An individual trophy for each team member.
The six finalist teams will then present their proposals before a panel of judges comprising industry professionals and business practitioners. The judges will select the top three teams based on the Creativity of Business Idea, Students' Value Add to the Product/Service, Strength of Marketing Plan, Ease of Implementation and Presentation Skills.
Each of the top three teams will be given $800 cash as seed money to implement their business proposal during the month of July 2015 with guidance from our Entrepreneurship students. After one month, the team with the highest sales will be declared the YES2015 Champion and receive $1,000 cash prize and the YES Challenge Shield.
