SP Business School hosted 100 secondary school students to an SP Experience (SPX) on Tuesday 5 June. A rousing dance performance by Strictly Dance Zone was the opening item for the afternoon of entertainment and fun SP style. Our emcee Ee Kwang showed the students a video on the facilities students can enjoy at the Business School and a taste of what the diplomas might offer them.
Students had a choice to two workshops: the workshop on EQ and Psychology and the workshop on Hospitality and Service Quality.
At the EQ and Psychology for Human Resources Management workshop, the team welcomed about 54 secondary school students to an afternoon of fun-filled interactive activities. Five students were specially brought by current SP students who recommended the workshop to them.
Students found the workshop useful as they learnt more about their behavioural styles and strengths. Using the CAPE profiling instrument, lecturers from the Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology (DHRMP) course provided students with insights about their behavioural styles and strengths. Many students even stayed beyond the workshops to learn more from the lecturers.
Students also enjoyed the unique experience they had in the HR Learning Studio. In an activity specially designed for students to learn about the basics of emotional intelligence and understand its link to Human Resource Management, student behaviours were all recorded using the studio’s top-of-the-line audio-visual system. Students were thrilled to see themselves in the video and learn about behavioral coaching based on feedback from the AV system.
At the end of the workshop, students learnt what the Diploma in Human Resource Management with Psychology course had to offer and were excited about the career prospects in the industry.
At the Hospitality & Service Quality Workshop, the Diploma in Tourism and Resort Management (DTRM) team along with their highly energetic student helpers welcomed 46 students. The students were hosted at the Hospitality Hub where they were given the royalty treatment by DTRM lecturers and students as their zealous hosts. The workshop kicked off with a brief introduction and overview of the course underscoring the exciting life that students can look forward to. The Diploma’s exciting year-on-year trips from the sea cruise study trip to an overseas immersion trip and local and international internship programs in places like Disney in the US, Burgundy in France, Shanghai, China and Finland left the secondary students awed!
The workshop ended with personal insights from DTRM Year 3 students, Fitri and David who graciously shared colourful pictures of their trips, curricular activities and just regular fun days in SP that make their “SP Memories”. After the presentations, the guest students were put to the task in the usual fun DTRM way when they played tray relay ala “one minute to win it” and a boisterous Destination Quiz. No one left empty handed as everyone was handed their personalized DTRM notebook and baskets for goodies for the game winners.
The workshop ended with a bang as the students were led to the Disney photo booth with matching wacky hats and glasses for their fun shots to be uploaded in SP Facebook! The secondary students were happy to open their FB accounts to “like” or friend SP FB page.
All in all it was a fun-filled afternoon for both students and lecturers at SP Experience!
