Dominic has many fond memories of his learning journey at SP. This is his short story and reflection about SP and how SP had impacted his life and career.
"I remember my poly days were the best of my youth, as I had very talented classmates where we could form a band, rely on each other for project work and till date, still catch up over a bite and definitely over football.
I attribute my learning formation and foundation to SP's lecturers that sometimes pushes us to a point that we achieved milestones we never thought we could have reached.
Something I particularly remembered was the practical industry project involving one of the leading global Fast Moving Consumer Goods companies. We were suppose to check on approximately 200 stores all over Singapore on over 180 SKUs for the client and the competition. We were running out of time to complete the fieldwork, and the major supermarket chains did not allow us to enter the premises to conduct the research. We took the unconventional path, and used recording devices to record what we saw in order to collect the data in the supermarkets. The client was surprised and asked how we got the data. We simply gave them a silent smile as I learned that some things are better left unsaid.
This training at SP formed the way I looked at strategic issues in the course of my workplace - to explore, plan and execute campaigns with tight deadlines and overcome challenges by unconventional thinking to achieve results beyond what was expected. While easier said than done, SP has given me the drive and values to take crisis as an opportunity, and make successful projects go beyond expectations.
Another important aspect I have learned from SP was time management. It was nearly impossible to balance tests, exams and project deadlines. The time management skill I acquired at SP had taught me to manage my time and life better.
I would undoubtedly recommend SP as a choice tertiary education to any youth who wants to learn beyond the textbooks and still have a fun time!”
We wish Dominic all the best as he continues to excel in his marketing career.
