12 February 2014 was a big day for the final year Diploma in Business Administration (Marketing Management option) students – it was the Finals of the Marketing Plan Competition 2014.
After months of hard work, three excited finalist teams finally got to pitch their proposed marketing plans to their client for this semester, Neo Group Limited. The three teams were selected based on their promising performance in the preliminary round.
This cross-modular project and competition requires the teams to develop a one-year marketing plan for Neo Garden Catering. Teams were assessed based on the creativity and feasibility of the marketing recommendations made.
Both lecturers and students turned up to witness the final teams vied for S$2,500 worth of prizes generously sponsored by the Neo Group Limited.
Neo Group Limited’s Executive Director Ms Sally Liew was the Guest of Honour for the Event.

The competition was intense as all the three finalist teams gave an all star performance. After a long deliberation by the judges, the champion team went to “Whoop It Up”!
According to Ms Jessie Ong, the Chief Judge of the Competition, the champion team, “Whoop It Up” led by Mr Christopher Lee Susanto won because they gave a marketing plan that was creative but most importantly, feasible to implement for Neo Group Limited.
The team member of the champion team, Miss Desiree Lim, was delighted that her team won the Competition. When the results were announced, there were tears of joy amongst the members of the team. Desiree and all the teams that participated in this competition expressed their gratitude to the School and Neo Group Limited for the opportunity to experience marketing from an authentic environment and context, working with an industry partner and client. Desiree added that client-based projects prepare SP students to be work ready as it allows them to get feedback from the client directly and learn if their proposed recommendations are feasible at the industry level.

Mr. Reginald Wee, Director of SP Business School, said of the competition, “The marketing plan competition has at least two groups of winners: all participating students, who get to apply the marketing frameworks and knowledge they have learn to a real world business application, to be judged by a panel that includes industrialists, and the sponsoring company - who will benefit from student's new ideas. I am glad that SB provides such opportunities for our students to practise 'Applied Learning.'”
The Best Speaker award went to Mr. Jonathan Teo. He was surprised and happy to be selected the Best Speaker award. He said that “all of us practiced hard and planned on how we could present better to Neo Group Limited, to keep the flow of the information as well as maintaining the energy level. I would like share my glory with my team members as all of us put in an equal amount of effort into this project.”

Chief Judge Ms Jessie Ong commented that Neo Group Limited’s management was pleasantly surprised with the creative ideas that the students proposed. She added that her company, Neo Group Limited, will definitely look into the ideas proposed by the students and see how to implement them into the Marketing Plan for Neo Garden Catering. She mentioned that it was really a fruitful collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic’s Business School.
The next batch of marketing students will be working on Marketing Plan project with Dr Peppers Snapple Group.
