Our very own DIB students participated for the first time in the prestigious Future China Global Forum 2012 on July 9th & 10th. This year, it was held at Shangri La Hotel, Singapore. Our PM Lee and DPM Tharman were the keynote speakers at the forum. Top diplomats, academia, business leaders, and others came from all around the world to participate in this event.
Ho Xiu Min, a top 2nd year DIB students was awarded a full scholarship by Business China (????) and as a scholar, she was granted full access to all the sessions of the forum. She seized the rare opportunity to interact with participants on topics that range from politics to the future business potential of China. Her deep passion for Chinese history, literature and culture motivated her to continue to upgrade her Mandarin speaking ability and Chinese writing skills. Being bilingual, she represented SP Business School professionally at the event. Well done! We will continue to work with Business China to further groom her to be bi-culturally intelligent.
The other participants were Nicholas Tei and Yong Yong Zhi. Both are year 3 DIB students, who were nominated to participate in a few sessions because of their good performance in school and motivation towards doing business in China.
4 specially selected year 2 DIB students performed the role as a Liaison Officer (LO) at the same event. They are Monica Ng, Bennett Chu, Aw Wei Jie and Chua Xiu Fang. As an LO of Business China, their role was to provide personal assistance to a number of distinguish speakers of the forum. One of their first duties was to fetch a speaker from the airport on Sunday, a day before the forum. Following that, they had to ensure the guest checked into Shangri La hotel and settled in well. It provided the LOs a rare opportunity to interact with the VIPs and they had fun while performing their duties. To them, the forum was an eye opener which motivated them to better their communication skills. Most importantly, it reinforced the importance of bilingualism and to be culturally savvy in business. Splendid job done guys!
