DHLFM Study Trip on-board Super Star Virgo

Facilities Management (DHLFM) course, accompanied by 3 SP lecturers, embarked on a 4 day 3 night cruise experience on board the Super Star Virgo. The latter is a floating five-star resort to Phuket and Langkawi.

The study tour provided the students opportunities to gain a better understanding of the management and operations of a floating hotel through facility tours of the Gallery, Laundry and Casino as well as sharing sessions with the Cruise Management’s team. In general, the students found the facility tours and briefing/sharing sessions beneficial as they were able to relate back to what they have learnt in school and at the same time gain a more in-depth understanding of the operations of a cruise ship.

The students also had plenty of fun through the participation of activities organised on board and had the opportunity to enjoy a series of non-stop family friendly performances. There was also a spectacular magic show by grand illusionists and a visually stunning musical performance called “Somewhere in Time” that showcased remarkable acrobatics by acclaimed performers and Super Star’s very own crew.

The trip included a short visit to Patong Beach—Phuket’s most developed beach. At the beach, the students managed to witness the bustling nightlife and culture of a town located there.

On the whole, the students recommended that the trip be repeated in future so as to provide an enriching and insightful out-of-classroom learning experience. It was through this experience that the students had the opportunity to develop strong and meaningful bonds amongst themselves and with new friends.
