CoC Class 5 Marine Engineer Officer (Orals Examination Preparatory Course & Written Exam)
After obtaining GME conversion course certificate and had sailed for a period of 6 months, to take CoC Class 5 Oral Examination conducted by MPA, Class 5 CoC Orals preparatory course has been developed in close cooperation of MPA, the CoC issuing authority, and Singapore Maritime Academy.
This course will prepare a candidate for COC Class5 orals exams and develop competence to take on the responsibility of up to a 3rd. Engineer of a ship in accordance with STCW 95 Convention.
GME Conversion Course completion certificate.
Approved sea-going 6 months sea service on ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 3,000kW or more. Apply and get Letter of Eligibility from MPA.

E-learning and on line assessment
After LoE is obtained from MPA, students are required to enrol and complete on-line assessments through e-learning, within min 2 to max 3 months.
Students who have satisfactorily completed on-line assessments can register to "Guided Study 3 Days"
Guided Study 3 days
Class 5 CoC which runs with class size of minimum 12 students from 8AM to 5PM, CoC Class 5 orals preparatory course for engineers has class size of minimum 12 and maximum 20 students. In order to keep the course fee viable for at least 12 participants the course will be conducted for 3 days and continue with self study for 7 to 10 days. This "Guided study course" makes extensive use of multimedia, case studies, problem solving discussions and notes.
A learning guide is provided to all candidates, which guides them through the course content in a systematic way. Lecturers are available to clarify any doubts at the end of the day. Students are responsible for their own learning.
Upon completion of 3 days, students will be given 7 to10 days self study.
1Hr 30 Mins each paper.
- After self study, written exams will be held with 2 papers, based on
- (1) Motor Engineering Knowledge and (2) General Engineering Knowledge.

If overseas Students intend to bring their family along to Singapore, they must obtain overseas travel and medical insurance for their family through their travel agent before they depart for Singapore or obtain from NTUC in Singapore.
Upon payment of course fees, Singapore Polytechnic will issue a letter for visa extension.
Visa extension is subject to Immigration s approval.
||Singapore Polytechnic does not maintain hostel facilities.
Private apartments are available in the vicinity of the campus and rooms are rented out
at about S$400.00 per month based on twin-sharing.
Daily expenses are estimated at about S$10.00 per day.
