Singapore Poly's SMIT student David Ong Rong Sheng misread "Fight" for "Flight" and he ended up with D7 for his English at the 'O' Levels. He couldn't qualify for junior college and instead enrolled in SP where he took up the Diploma in Business Information Technology. He excelled in his studies with an almost perfect GPA of 3.967, despite having financial difficulties during his second year. During his poly days, he went on a community service trip to Cambodia and was touched by the perserverance of the underprivileged kids. His perseverance and fighting spirit won him the Student Model Award this year. David hopes to pursue a degree at a reputable university overseas. The newspaper also mentioned Cliff Tan, another Model Student Award recipient who won a photography contest in 2006. His love for photography was inspired by his grandmother who bought him his first camera.
