He graduated just last year and is now serving his National Service.
But in between graduation and national service, football fan Sazali Abdul Aziz, 20, managed to score a goal – he won the Story of the Year award at the 12th NTUC Income-Yeo's S-League Awards Night late last year.
The award was for a feature published in the Today newspaper on 16-year-old football prodigy Hariss Harun setting his sights on Europe.
Sazali had done his internship at Today as part of his Diploma in Media and Communication course, and he went on to work for the newspaper full-time until he was called up for National Service.
The DMC course prepares students for careers in public relations, advertising and journalism with a range of modules dealing with both the practical and theoretical aspects of media and communication.
The 12-week internship programme is an integral part of the course for third-year students as it exposes students to the working world and allows them to put into practice what they have learnt in the classroom.
Today sports editor Leonard Thomas was quoted in the media as saying he was impressed with the stories Sazali delivered: "He has an infectious enthusiasm for sports and is 'alive' to local football. For a 20-year-old, it surprises me how good he is at his job." We are not surprised though. He is after all a Media&Comm@BizSP student.
