SP students Soh Xin Ren, Lim Wai Sian, Lim Jin Ru - all aged 19 - were among the six recipients of the 2007 Tay Eng Soon Scholarship Awards, which recognizes outstanding ITE graduates who are presently pursuing their studies at the Polytechnics.
Xin Ren is now pursuing a Diploma in Information Communication Technology and is excelling well academically. He was also part of the winning team at the Siemon Cup Challenge 2007.
Wai Sian, from the Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, continues his stellar streak of sporting achievements in SP. He represented SP in the Polytechnic-ITE Games and IVP Games in basketball. He also represented Singapore in the SEABA Games in Thailand in Apr 07 and Basketball Without Borders (NBA Camp) in Shanghai in May 07.
Jin Ru, also from the Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, remains dedicated and compassionate to helping others. The class treasurer is currently a member of the community service club in SP and visited Red Cross Home for the Disabled, Swami Home and Lin Kwang Home.
Established in 1993 by ITE and the 5 Polytechnics, the Tay Eng Soon Scholarship Fund is supported by numerous employers, friends and members of the public in honour of the late Dr Tay Eng Soon, who was formerly the Chairman of ITE and Minister-in-Charge of technical and polytechnic education. The Fund was established to promote technical education and training through the provision of scholarship awards, as well as the sponsoring of seminars, symposia and other activities relevant to technical and polytechnic education.
