Two Singapore Polytechnic students Emerge as Winners in the Singapore Youth Commonwealth Photo Competition

The two winning photographs were unveiled by the Information, Communications and the Arts Minister Lee Boon Yang on 13 Mar 06 at a ceremony in the National Library.

And part of the reward for the two lucky youths is a chance to meet the Queen of England when she visits Singapore this week.

Alvina Tan's nostalgic theme of traditional childhood games captured the judges' attention, so did Cliff Tan's strong and colourful portrait of dragon boat racers.

'I picked this theme because children nowadays don't play such games anymore. I want to highlight to them about these games and bring back their memories about these games," said winner Alvina Tan.

'I was at the dragon boat competition, and I wanted to capture the feel of the place. So I took several pictures, and this was the best shot I had," said winner Cliff Tan.

Both students from Singapore Polytechnic will win a pair of tickets for a complimentary four-night stay in London.
