The Singapore Polytechnic Sports Complex was transformed into the National Stadium. And the ceremonial pageantry, flypast and spectacular mass performances, which are hallmarks of National Day Parades, were transplanted there on Wednesday, 2 August 2006.
Our Singaporean students and their overseas classmates came together to celebrate our National Day with colourful modern and traditional dances and pulsating drum beats from Malay, Chinese, Indian, Burmese and Japanese Daiko Drums. Our pugilists demonstrated their agility and skills through Dragon Dance and Wushu displays. Children from our staff childcare centre also strutted their stuff.
With a fly past, a parade and spectacular mass performances being put up, it was a mini National Day Parade the SP way.
SPSU president, Casper Koh, lead 40 other students and SP staff in the recitation of the pledge.
As part of the National Day celebrations, the festivities were part of the National Observance Ceremony, which is organised every year.
The Guest-of-Honour for the event was Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC and also Board Member of Singapore Polytechnic.
