Singapore Polytechnic (SP) shared its environmental management strategies and experiences with 26 Green Ambassadors from ITE. Led by Mr Tan Wee Khiang, the Divisional Director of Human Resource, the ITE team visited SP on Friday, 21 July 2006.
The visitors were given an insight into how SP promotes the green culture within its 38-hectare campus and the community, which is by involving students, staff and even contractors. Recycling activities as part of freshmen orientation programmes, paper and energy conservation, propagation of endangered species of plants and water sports were highlighted as green awareness building activities.
The visitors were also briefed on SP’s path to ISO 14001 certification and its achievement of the ACCA Best Environmental Report Award. They also toured the Thermodynamics, Molecular Biology and Material Labs to get a better understanding of SP’s systems for storage and disposal of hazardous and bio materials, risk management, recycling and pollution control.
“ITE is also running programmes to build environmental awareness and implement protection processes. This sharing-session provides additional ideas, particularly for refining our lab's operational procedures,” said Mr Tan at the end of the visit.
