The New Faces of Entrepreneurship

From a field of more than 340 students from 45 secondary schools, six teams got themselves prestigious places in the finals which were held in conjunction with the National Entrepreneurship Convention 2006. The finalists were Anglo-Chinese School (Baker Road), CHIJ Katong Convent, Chung Ling High School (Malaysia), St. Gabriel's Secondary School, Penang Chinese Girls High School and Zhenghua Secondary School. Who were the eventual winner?

Perhaps it came in the form of the team from ACS (Barker Road)

 

After all, Mr Ho Kwon Ping, executive chairman of the Banyan Tree Holdings Limited, accepted to invitation to be the guest-of-honour for the 8th Young Entrepreneurship Challenge to find out what the next generation of entrepreneurs would be like.

 

The YES 2006, organised by the School of Business, Singapore Polytechnic and supported by the Ministry of Education's Curriculum Planning & Development Division, aims to promote innovation and the enterprising spirit among secondary school students.

 

From a field of more than 340 students from 45 secondary schools, six teams got themselves prestigious places in the finals which were held in conjunction with the National Entrepreneurship Convention 2006.

 

The finalists were Anglo-Chinese School (Baker Road), CHIJ Katong Convent, Chung Ling High School (Malaysia), St. Gabriel's Secondary School, Penang Chinese Girls High School and Zhenghua Secondary School.

ACS (Baker Road) impressed the judges with their sleek presentation of VAMOS which stands for Vehicle Access Memory Operating System. This allows drivers to synchronise his PC, PDA and MP3 player, creating a comprehensive entertainment and info-tainment environment in a vehicle. They clinched the first prize and best visuals award, taking home $2,000 prize and the YES Shield.

 

CrusBin won Zhenghua Secondary School the second position and the best marketing award. It is an environmental-friendly bin with mechanisms that can easily crush bins and also filter out dirt and water before the recycling process.

 

Chung Ling High School from Penang, Malaysia took the third position with its innovative product which combines the functions of a watch and MP3 player, as well as various fitness functions like a pedometer, stopwatch and a heart-rate calorie monitor.
