A sauce to call Singapore's own

Commercialised student-developed local condiment set to give foreign salad dressings a run for their money

You may have heard of the common Thousand Island and Italian salad dressings. But for a truly Asian and Singaporean condiment, it would be hard to find in the supermarkets. However, with the efforts of Singapore Polytechnic (SP) and industry partners RevoPack Pte Ltd and Fountainhead Manufacturing Pte Ltd, the Singapore Salad Sauce will soon become a reality.

Combining spices found in the region, the halal-certified sauce was fine-tuned for 5 months by 3 graduates of the Food Technology course in the polytechnic's School of Chemical & Life Sciences. Available in both Spicy and Fusion flavours, the Sauce is suited for salad dressings, marinades, barbeque, stir-fry and even spaghetti.

For a start, the Singapore Salad Sauce would be available at Vantage Gourmet's Singapore Premium Food Gift Boutique Café at Changi Airport from June 2007 and then subsequently in Cold Storage Supermarkets. With a shelf-life of at least 1 year without refrigeration required, the Sauce is set to be popular among tourists and Singaporeans living abroad.

The CLS students are understandably proud of their sauce.
