This year marks the 5th run of the Generation Y Leadership Camps organised by the Dept of Student & Alumni Affairs in collaboration with the academic schools.
The GYL Camps aim to nurture student leaders and enhance peer support among students in SP.
196 students from the Schools of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, School of Media & Info-Communication Technology, School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, School of the Built Environment, and the School of Business will be in Batam from 28 August to 14 September 2007 to learn about leadership development the fun and exciting way, through experiential outdoor activities.
44 students from Singapore Maritime Academy will also be in for a similar learning experience on board the SuperStarVirgo, bound for Redang, Malaysia.
Likewise, about 60 students from the School of Chemical & Life Sciences will have their opportunity during the December vacation.
Camp participants will learn about team-work, problem-solving skills, adaptability, perseverance, resilience and other important soft skills. Besides, GYL camps will sharpen awareness of important qualities and skills that build friendship and helpful relationships, contributing to the SP CORE value of Care and Concern through peer support.
Training camps are held at different overseas locations, to expose students to living conditions, cultures and lifestyles that are different from Singapore, hence enriching their world views. Several camps also include a community service component as well.
