MPs participated in relay race and shot archery arrows together with SP staff and students in a symbolic gesture to show their support.
Not even the heavy downpour could dampen the rousing spirits of SP staff, students nor the three post-65 Members of Parliament, who were present at this annual SP Sports Day on Wednesday 5th December to demonstrate their support for the Singapore's bid of Youth Olympic Games 2010.
Mr Baey Yam Keng (MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC), Mr Christopher de Souza (MP for Holland-Bukit Timah GRC) and Mr Hri Kumar (MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC) braved the rain to shoot an arrow each tagged with their names onto a huge archery target as a show of support for Singapore's bid.
The MPs also joined hands with SP staff, lining up to spell out the word SINGAPORE with their T-shirts.
Another highlight of the day was the Parlouf Mile Relay, which saw participation from the MPs, staff as well as students. The event was extra significant as SP principal - Mr. Low Wong Fook passed the leadership baton to principal designate - Mr. Tan Hang Cheong during the relay race. This symbolic gesture is especially memorable as Mr. Tan will be taking over as principal of SP on 1 January 2008.
This is a continuation of SP's support for Singapore' Youth Olympics 2010 bid, following the kick off at last week's Global Cultural Fest. SP staff, students and guests which included Parliamentary Secretary Mr. Teo Ser Luck, were encouraged to leave their well wishes in the form of hand prints or signatures on the 10-metre long "Hands Up for Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010" boards.
