Five students from SP's School of the Built Environment were awarded the prestigious PUB Scholarship at the annual BE Prizes and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 10th October.
Valerie Chia, Zou Yuxing, Go Rin See, Weng Shiya and Lim Renhui, creme of the crop first-year students from the newly launched Diploma in Environmental Management & Water Technology (DEWT) course, received their awards from the guest of honour, Mr Lawrence Tan, PUB's Director of Human Resources.
The scholarship aims to groom young talents to support the emerging environmental and water technology sector in Singapore.
Given bond-free tuition grants, with computer and book allowances amounting to $11,000, these 5 youngsters will also spend their 2-months industrial training attachments with PUB.
Renhui, whose curiosity about the water treatment process and environmental problems led him to enroll in the DEWT course, is very happy to receive the scholarship. "It will lighten the financial burden on my family, thus giving me a peace of mind to concentrate on my studies."
During the special awards ceremony, academic prizes and awards were also handed out to 200 outstanding BE students in the presence of their proud, beaming parents and lecturers. The BE scholarships and the Singapore Structural Steel Society Scholarships were also awarded.
